The Writers’ Strike Is Positive for Viewers and Writers Alike
The Writers’ Strike Is Positive for Viewers and Writers Alike
Tim O’Connor – Center for the Preservation of Humanity – 5/2/2023
One of the worst shows I have ever seen is called Bojack Horseman. It’s pretentious, boring, and utterly devoid of any value whatsoever – especially entertainment value. The writers of Bojack Horseman; however, find this show to be worth writing for and one even calls it something he loves. But, now, the Writer’s Guild of America has called a strike. Writing for hundreds of productions has been halted, Bojack Horseman included, thankfully. Late night shows and streaming programs are expected to be affected first while other production efforts stall and maybe even fizzle out. That’s good news for literally the entire world – even for the writer’s themselves.
At the heart of the matter is the unionized writers against the production studios which employ them. The union is split into an East and a West and is called the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA). The production studios’ collectivization is called the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Basically the WGA is demanding more money and stability from their employers. They are also asking for other things; however. They want to infringe on fair use. They are demanding what amounts to tenure, being employed and collecting paychecks even when they are not needed, and want pay equity. They also want to be protected from the gig-economy and the advances of artificial intelligence, both often portrayed as positive developments by these very writers.
The AMPTP apparently offered the WGA almost everything they asked for. The primary disagreements which led to the strike being called are the notions that writers should be contractually hired for set amounts of time and that a certain number of writers be retained in such a manner whether they are needed or not. As far as these two ideas go – I cannot blame the studios for not acquiescing to them because they are ridiculous on their face. Ideas like pay equity, which the studios had no apparent issue accepting, indicate the lunacy the studios are involved in as well as the WGA.
I cannot stress enough that these writers overwhelmingly write trash. The production houses produce garbage. The last notable big movie to come out was a remake of Top Gun. The movie was lauded by many because it didn’t contain a message promoting homosexuality, transsexuality, an anti-human future, or the promotion of a race war. The last movie which I supported by attending a movie theater was 2000 Mules. The last series which I watched and enjoyed was not produced in America, it was produced in Russia and it’s called The Day After and it was excellent. The last American TV series I watched and enjoyed was Person of Interest and there were a few Black Mirror episodes which were thought-provoking as well but Netflix had to go when they let the Obamanations make content.
I am much more apt to watch independent movies and television like New Wold Order, Beyond the Reset, and some older movies like Dr. Zhivago. I’m drawn to these types of media because I am interested in the topics they cover and because they are not telling people they are trash and have no hope. The striking workers are currently abstaining from writing about how people are trash and have no hope and the production studios cannot push out that drivel to the masses. It’s a chance for all of us to wake up even more.
If we could get the narrative writers in the soap-operas-for-men known as professional sports to go on strike too, that would be monumental. Entertainment as a whole would be forced to be evaluated for its actual value in our lives instead of blindly followed to the exclusion of everything real. Real, massive, waking up could occur.
But, as it stands, streaming, late-night television, and movies will be affected and that is a positive for humanity in my book. Increased focus will be on independent producers. Producers of film and cinema with views not necessarily in line with the current narratives will become more prominent as the strike goes on. The weavers of the narrative cannot have that so look for this strike to be mediated quickly. In the meantime independent movies – proliferate!
As for the benefits to those writers striking, maybe they should use their talents in entrepreneurial endeavors? Maybe they could compete independently and see how much of the content they create is viewed without all of the promotion and clout of the studios. Maybe they should be paid based on the quality of their work and the reception of the audiences they reach. Their pay should be a reflection of their work not the ability of production studios to push their garbage upon the masses.
Columbia Pictures, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Legendary Entertainment, and Twenty-First Century Fox are the top five film producers in the US. Columbia is owned by Sony, a Japanese company. Walt Disney is owned by its shareholders and 13.6% of the stock is owned by Vanguard, Black Rock and State Street. National Amusements is the owner of Paramount Pictures. Legendary Entertainment is Chinese-owned. Twenty-First Century Fox is owned by Disney. So, there are really only four major powerhouses in the top-five. Many of these organizations also produce television programming as well, meaning they are able to serve their perverted view on us without our even being aware. These five studios had 2022 revenue of over $230 billion and employed a percentage of the 45,000 employees in the industry.
Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and others also compete in this field. I couldn’t stomach continue my Netflix subscription as mentioned earlier. I dropped Hulu and Amazon as well. I have no streaming service because, frankly, there is nothing worth watching on them. These writers, too, could decide to drop their support of these streaming services in pursuit of their own, independent, endeavors.
But, it is unlikely these striking writers will do so. The biggest thing for these writers to write about right now, from their viewpoint, is how to get America to accept transsexual lifestyles as normal. Also front and center is how to introduce children to sex at as young an age as possible. As mentioned, the union which represents them has two divisions, East and West. Both sections are fully on board with the efforts to destroy children’s lives at the earliest ages possible while filling our television screens with images of the freaks living the Alphabet Mafia lifestyle and making sure we all know that we are bigots (terrorists even) if we oppose it.
The East chapter clearly supports the LGBT mafia. An ally of the East chapter, the Writer’s Guild Initiative, held a Spring Gala on April 17. Forget about it if you happen to be white or male – the WGI hates you and tell you so in their mission statement - “The WGI makes the art of storytelling accessible to people of all ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds – with special attention to the underserved.”
The West is more open about their embrace of the cultural devastation they are bringing into our living rooms. They had a piece called “Writing About LGBTQ+ Migrants and Refugees” appear in May 2022 endorsing illegal immigration as well as guidelines about how to put the sexually deviant illegal immigrants into a positive light. They have multiple other examples including one about a committee they formed:
“The Writers Guild of America West’s LGBTQ+ Writers Committee seeks to utilize its constituency as a resource to all writers who include LGBTQ+ characters in their work. Its members also wish to provide cultural and educational opportunities for WGAW members to nurture an understanding of how sexual orientation and gender identity affect the lives of writers; endeavor to provide networking and social activities enabling the WGAW membership to better know one another and create a greater demand for the writing services of LGBTQ+ WGAW members; and strive to generate a greater awareness within the Guild of sexual orientation (and gender identity) as a minority and, where appropriate, to identify and advocate against instances of homophobia, transphobia and/or discrimination within our industry.
What I hope happens is the people writing this filth for wide audiences, including children, never go back to work. I hope Hollywood ceases to exist. I hope that the writers who think that there exists a mainstream market for their perverted material try it out in the free-market and get crushed by the reality that the market only exists because people are not aware of alternatives. This is the perfect time to find those alternatives to televised and movie-theater entertainment and to stick with them. If we don’t want to watch these writers help destroy America through the filth they promote, which way too many people end up adopting into their own worldviews, then this is a perfect time to replace them with something more constructive, truthful, and uplifting.
Ideally, this is the perfect time to just shut the TV off and to stay home on movie night. Instead, read a book…. And boy, oh boy, do I have a book to suggest for your consideration. The Holy Bible! The content of the Bible is unparalleled in making us think, reconsider our lives, change, and learn. Even the most fantastical prophecies and miracles, standing at the edge of even the wildest imagination, have come to pass or will come to pass. We are actually living in the times when some of the wilder ones manifest in my opinion. The Truth is in that Book as it is in God and Jesus. So, I say, read that Bible on movie night and discuss it among yourselves. In the meantime I’ll be hoping for the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL to all go on strike as well and then, at the very least, there will be absolutely nothing left to watch for entertainment (except the news but that type of entertainment is anger-inspiring for all of us with even an iota of common sense or wherewithal). At least the consideration of reading a book (the Bible maybe?) or going outside will be there….
Bless God and God bless.
